I read through a 10,807-word chapter (with Angel and Anthony that evening) this evening…
There is a lot going on in this chapter and much of it, I want to keep, but I know I’ll have to re-write much of it to bring down the word count, which means I’ll have to spend the rest of tonight making notes on how I’ll do the re-write and then start that process tomorrow. I suppose I’d planned for a chapter every two days or so when I started this 30-day quest, but I don’t think I counted on how frustrating some of this can be.
A ten thousand word chapter. I suppose the good thing about it is that it all reads very quickly, so perhaps if I end up with final draft sitting at 150K words, I can look at my agent-to-be and assert, “But, it moves quick!”
I’m pushing towards a point where I want to pause on this edit and start scratching out things from the beginning again, but I’ve got this odd sense that I’ve got to see this edit through to the end, just to see how many words this second draft turns out to be.
